Recipe: Anti-Aging Acai Spirulina Smoothie

Beth Purcell Juice Recipes 0 Comments

Acai is a small dark purple berry from the Acai Palm tree, which is native to Central and South America. Acai is full of antioxidants, amino acids and omega fatty acids that help to slow the aging process by boosting immune and metabolic function and removing destructive free radicals from our bodies.  In fact, Acai has ten times the amount of antioxidants as grapes, and two times the amount of blueberries.

Another benefit of this superfruit is that it hides the taste of spirulina extremely well.  Spirulina is another powerhouse food but unlike a lot of other superfoods, its taste can be off-putting and is not easily hidden in most recipes.  Spirulina is a detoxifying chlorophyll; a blue-green algae that is rich in protein, antioxidants, B complex vitamins, beta-carotene, vitamin E, manganese, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, and gamma linolenic acid (an essential fatty acid). And, again, a good partner with Acai.

Bottom line? This smoothie is full of antioxidants, loaded with vitamins and minerals and tastes like a nice little mixed berry treat.

1 acai pouch (unsweetened)
6-8 strawberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 banana
3/4 cup almond milk
1 tbsp almond butter
1/2 tsp spirulina
1 tsp bee pollen
Stevia to taste

Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until creamy and smooth. Serve!
